Emotions are a natural part of the human experience. Throughout the years, something consistently communicated by the youth I work with is: “Emotions are scary”. Experiencing emotions isn’t the scary part, more often the source of fear is the uncertainty of what to do when messy emotions surface. Questions like: What is this emotion I am experiencing? Who can I trust and with whom can I safely share my emotions? Why do my emotions seem to take over? Is there a right way to express my emotions? It is difficult for anyone to navigate the mixed messages about how emotions “should” be expressed. Additionally, making the decision to seek out support in the form of therapy can be also be daunting. Because of this I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space to address my clients needs and to help them understand and learn ways to navigate their emotional experience and to reach the positive resolution possible by working through complex feelings. I work with clients and families, helping them develop critical coping, learning and communication skills that will enhance their daily living.
